Car Junk Yards

There often comes a time when your auto needs a new part. Anything can happen on the road and off the road, and sometimes it may be your fault or the other driver. You could hit a curb when parking and your rim would need a replacement, or you could leave your car parked at the supermarket, and some shopper could hit your mirror with the cart accidently. In any case you’ll need to find a good replacement and fast and preferrably cheap. The worst case scenario is if you have a classic model, or an older model and to get a new part becomes a nightmare – most likely common stores don’t carry those parts anymore, and the rare ones that do will ask for arm and a leg for the coveted detail.

Say hello to a junk yard. Most people would say “meh, those are used or half-broken”, and it is generally true, however the ones who’ve been to car junk yard will certainly give it a thumbs up. You can easily find a junk yard near you by going through local phone book listings. There is an entrance fee, which is usually extremely low, something like a cost of a cup of coffee. You should also bring your own set of tools, as you will most likely need to disassemble few things to get to your part. Once you enter the junk yard, have a look around – most of them have vehicles separated by country of origin of the model, so if you’ve got a Honda, look for Japanese rows.

Once your find a perfect fit, don’t just take the neccessary part. Take a good look at the car and see if you can get more parts off of it. It never hurts to have a spare, especially if you can get it for tenth of a price of a new one. For example if you came for a new hood, get a headlight and a mirror as well – you never know when you may need to replace those.

After you’re done your “shopping”, head out to the exit where you’ll need to pay for the parts. Usually an attendant or cashier is there, and they have a pricelist of parts that you’re buying. And that’s it! So after spending a couple of hours at the local junk yard, not only you will find your auto part, but you will also have a great sense of accomplishment and this trip would make for a good story next time you meet with your fellow drivers.
